About 2,000 candidates are battling for 600 jobs at The Hong Kong Computer and Communications Festival 2010, Apple Daily reports. Next month, successful candidates will work 12 hours a day and receive a daily pay of HK$300, in addition to a meal allowance of HK$70. Those who work on all four days of the event will get a bonus of HK$400. The event organiser says the number of applicants is twice that of last year's.  

Work is hard to find in London

A record 32 people on average are applying for every job in London, more than three times the number for any other region in Britain, The Daily Telegraph reports. A recent analysis by Totaljobs.com has also found that on average, 10 candidates are coveting every job in Britain. Some roles, such as secretarial and personal assistants, have attracted as many as 26 applications per vacancy.  

Employees respond to job security and better pay

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been able to recruit and retain talent by providing job security and attractive compensation, a survey reveals. The Singapore National Employers Federation and consulting firm StrategiCom found that in 2008, SMEs attracted and retained employees by allowing them to use their initiative, recognising their work, and offering an attractive compensation and benefits package. This year, employees also want a work-life balance. Xinhua
