Strong number for senior hires

We observed a high level of recruitment activities in 2010 as telecommunication companies refocused on building their sales and business development teams.

We noticed a big demand for senior positions as many organisations sought professionals who can build strong teams. Sales and product managers, account managers and experienced candidates in solutions-selling and managed services fields were highly sought after.

Demand was also strong in the software, hardware and IT consulting sectors. In spite of the elevated confidence and candidates' openness to switching careers, there remained a shortage of high-calibre candidates in the market. Experienced professionals typically received salary rises of 5 per cent to 10 per cent, with some receiving as high as 20 per cent. 

However, since the start of 2011, we have been seeing a slowdown in hiring within the sector due to consolidation and the economic uncertainty.

We expect most hires this year to be replacement roles within the industry as we see high-performing sales directors, managers, account managers and product managers moving to fill the demand in the software, hardware and IT consulting firms. As market conditions continue to improve, we expect salary levels to rise by 8 per cent to 12 per cent for those looking to move.
