World-class designers to share insights

Check out the "World-Class Judges Seminar", where designers from some of the world's most iconic brands such as Converse (below left), H&M and IKEA will share their insights, as part of the Global Design Awards 2011 held by the Hong Kong Design Association. HKU chapter of World University Service issues survival challenge to help poor  

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) chapter of global NGO World University Service (WUS) is hosting a 'poverty simulation' during which participants can experience the hardships endured by the poor. Dubbed "Survivor 24", it will involve being isolated in an open area with little or no resources. November 5, 10am-4pm. Tuen Mun Crossroads Global Village. HK$50 for WUS members and HK$80 for others. HKIEd forum on city's wealth gap

How is it that wealthy Hong Kong falls behind in helping the poor? This will be one of the key questions at the English-language seminar on "Income Inequality and Public Expenditure on Social Policy in Hong Kong" to be conducted by economic consultant Dr Valentine Henrard. Economics Nobel laureate at HKUST  

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's (HKUST) Department of Economics and the Institute for Advanced Study have tapped Nobel laureate Professor Edward Prescott (below right) of the Arizona State University to talk about "Efficiently Financing Retirement". Prescott was awarded the 2004 Nobel Prize in economics for his research on the time consistency of economic policy and business cycles. October 31, 3.30-5pm.
