Master of Business Administration

For those who are thinking about a second master's degree, the master of business administration (MBA) at Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration at the Open University of Hong Kong is a time-saving route.

The programme leader, Dr Nigel Leung, says that the credit exemption policy helps shorten the time until students receive their qualifications.

"Students are normally required to do 60 credits to get their qualifications which takes up to three years, but students who already have a master's degree in a business-related subject are eligible to study 40 credits and graduate within two years," he says.

The programme is delivered through distant-learning mode, in which students go through course materials at their own pace. "There is a website for every course with learning materials, online discussions, and [where assignments can be handed] in," says Leung.

The MBA is designed for practising managers who wish to enhance their abilities and skills ahead of senior managerial positions.

"Students analyse a problem and come up with a solution, based on the theories they have learned," says Leung. "It helps develop strategic perspective, analytical skills and knowledge in the main functional areas of business and management."

The programme features courses adapted from the highly regarded MBA offered by the Open University (UK), with locally developed courses focusing on business issues in Hong Kong and China.

Applicants must have a bachelor's in a business-related discipline. Those with no business degree must have three years of supervisory or managerial experience.
