Master of Law in International and Corporate Financial Law
SCOPE

Hong Kong's School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) and Britain's University of Wolverhampton are offering the master's of law in international and corporate financial law, focusing on regulatory changes.

"This is a postgraduate law programme for people with little or no legal background, as well as those currently in legal practice," says course leader Loraine Houlton.

"Case studies of real events are used to give a practical view on finance-related legal issues. Dispute resolution, drafting and negotiation are also taught," she adds.

Students will be able to enjoy an interactive learning experience. "There is a strong network approach allowing students to share their experiences and learn - not only from the tutors, but also from fellow students," says Houlton. "We only admit around 20 students a year. They gain confidence from the presentations made in class. For example, the first assessment is to make a short presentation to a board of directors, and negotiate and draft an international contract."

The programme is delivered in block mode, providing greater flexibility for Hong Kong employees.

"Many students work in the business and financial sector. Many of them have a first master's degree, and there have been an increasing number of students with an accounting background joining," says Houlton.

Students finish the master's course in two years, part-time. Classes are held over two consecutive weeks, intensively, including two weekends and two evenings. Applicants should have a bachelor's degree with honours in law, finance or accounting-related fields.
