Master of Finance
University of Hong Kong

The master of finance at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) is a mix of basic and cutting-edge knowledge in modern finance.

Students must do the fundamental and advanced modules before moving on to either the risk management or financial engineering stream.

"The fundamental modules cover four basic courses in financial analysis that are based on the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) curriculum," says programme director Zhang Jin.

The course is designed to broaden the candidates' knowledge of quantitative analysis, financial statement analysis, economics and asset valuation, and is for those with a keen interest in finance.

Preferred candidates should have experience in financial institutions, banks or government bodies.

"Graduates enjoy a competitive advantage in commercial and investment banks, brokerage and investment firms, insurance companies, treasury departments of non-financial firms, regulatory agencies, and consulting and accounting firms," says Zhang.

Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised university, with at least two years of work experience, and need to provide statements from two referees.

Courses are offered on a modular basis. Usually, each module is seven to eight weeks in length, including the examination week.

Students can choose either the full-time or part-time mode of study. Full-time students must finish the programme in a year or two. Part-time students should complete it within two to four years. Lessons are held at HKU centres in Cyberport, Pokfulam and Admiralty.
