Career options for a security manager
Security Manager
posted on Monday, 21 February 2011 00:00

I am a 37 year old man, with two bachelor's degrees - one in social sciences and  the other in security management. I am also a memeber of ASIS and have been awarded a PSP certification. Overall, I have 12 years of expeience in the property and security fields.

At present, I am paid 27K to work as a senior security manager overseeing manned guarding services for a contracting firm. I have been doing this for two and half years now.

However, I feel that the the minimum wage law might soon put pressure on the industry and affect my marketability.

I feel that I need to find a new job. But is my present salary too high?  What kind of work can I do that would increase my salary?

Thank you for your advice.

You have an impressive background. The minimum wage law should only affect those guards. How could this law affect your marketability? On the contrary, your academic background and experience make you quite 'marketable'.

I can't comprehend what the minimum wage law issue has to do with your job, nor the rationale behind your needing to find another job.

Regarding salary, there's never an ideal standard, so I'll not comment on that. No one really can.

Whatever the circumstances, there's always a need for people with good management skills. You seem to enjoy the advantage of having worked in this industry for some time. You have solid experience and knowledge about how to manage staff, as well as how to increase efficiency and productivity. These could help a company like yours cope with the extreme challenges your industry is facing.

You're an asset and you don’t have to cut take a pay cut or look for another job. Don't be silly.
