I have a degree in law and have been practising for a few years now. I am thinking of a change of career into journalism and news editting. Can you give me some tips on how I can make a change without going back to university?

You sure about this switch? Journalism in Hong Kong is competitive. Please think carefully.

Why don't you first tell me how much you know about the industry you think you want to change to, and why?

If you can't work out a good reason and answer you won't have a chance, you'll be asked this for sure!

Why would you think you need to go back to the university? What are the essential qualities / skills for a journalism and editorial job? Have you ever tried writing articles even diaries as a habit? Writing skill is important, and so is your viewpoints and instincts. Start writing and building up a portfolio of how you write about various subjects would be helpful.

Please also bear in mind the industry you wanted in is NOT very rewarding, salary / money wise, long hours and unstable working hours too! Meaning you really need to love what you do to be able to hang on, and have the chance of succeeding in.

Are you ready for that?
