Projects spur jobs in Asia

In Asia, this sector has been predominantly driven recently by the mainland and Macau, with a plethora of new and exciting developments that continue to change the industry landscape.

The Asia Pacific has no doubt benefited from the new hotels sprouting up across the region, helping to make this the most dynamic place to work in the hospitality industry.

The two new integrated resorts (IR) that opened in Singapore last year added 20,000 jobs to the market and similar IR projects planned across the region are bound to have the same job flow-on effects.

As a result, staff across the region, and especially on the mainland, are being fast-tracked to accommodate gaps, and employers have been forced to rethink staff selection criteria just to fill the many vacancies in their organisations.

While they may not be as high as other industries, salary levels in the hospitality sector are on the rise. As employees leave to chase higher pay, this acts as a catalyst and we see salaries climbing exponentially.

Still, entry-level posts are proving difficult to fill in most hotels. Many candidates have higher expectations as educational attainment rises in many parts of the region.
