Firm desperate for tested talent

Atkins China is recruiting for more than a dozen new and replacement positions for its architectural and engineering (MEP) teams.

"We are desperate for experienced electrical and mechanical engineers," says Peggy Wong, Atkins' senior manager for human resources and administration.

"With a lot of infrastructure projects going on in the market, it is not easy to fill these positions," Wong says.

The company, which has over 600 employees, offers planning, design and supervision of multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.

It is also recruiting mid-level civil engineers, such as assistant engineers with about three years' experience and chartered engineers with at least five years' experience.

"We look at candidates' relevant job experience. Middle-level engineers should have strong technical knowledge and relevant background," she says.

"For senior positions, good presentation and interpersonal skills will be considered because we need to deal with clients. Proficiency in both English and Cantonese is important," she adds.

The company offers in-house training and supports staff pursuing job-related courses that satisfy the yearly continuing professional development requirements.

There are two formal training schemes for graduates - the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Scheme A and the Institution of Civil Engineers in Britain.
