The Social Sciences Society at the University of Hong Kong will be hosting a round-table discussion with Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen on January 21. Entry is free, on a first-come, first-served basis, and participants can raise any topic during the "chit-chat" period. Register via 

Co-operate on world peace initiative  

This year's Hong Kong Model United Nations conference will be held from February 17 to 20 in Chai Wan. The event is open to students from all disciplines. New this year is the inclusion of an Association of Southeast Asian Nations committee which will address the regional issues of the day. The conference is being hosted by Hong Kong Model United Nations Club, a local organisation dedicated to promoting activities and world peace through understanding and co-operation. Biology Society delves into local fishing  

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's Biology Students' Society started the new term with a trip to the Lamma Fisherfolks' Village, where they visited ecological hotspots and enjoyed a seafood lunch. Society member Kelvin Ho notes that the trip helped the group better appreciate the history and cultural significance of the village. Visit to learn about the group. 

Get to know your new classmates  

Chinese University's Shaw College will host its annual dinner for undergraduates on January 27. The event will include a banquet, talks and singing. Tickets are HK$100 each from the Student Union ( - which is in Chinese) until January 16. 

Rub shoulders with the top table

Chinese University will host a high-table dinner for postgraduates at the Regal Kowloon Hotel on January 17. It will be a chance to socialise with university officials, as the guest list will include a number of senior faculty, including vice-chancellor Joseph Sung Jao-yiu, graduate school dean Wong Wing-shing and dean of students Dennis Ng Kee-pui. Tickets are available online from at HK$150 for members and HK$200 for non-members.
