If you are seeking a prestigious management programme that can fit your busy schedule, the executive MBA (EMBA) programme of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business is an ideal choice.

The university, offering management education since 1943, is rated first in MBA programmes and second in EMBA by this year's Bloomberg Businessweek business school rankings.

Glenn Sykes, the school's Singapore-based associate dean for Europe and Asia, says the course teaches students how managers should think and also enables them to do so in different ways. "They are taught to develop the skills to successfully take on any business challenge and the opportunities. These will give students the confidence to perform in situations where no set guidelines are provided."

The programme offers an extensive alumni network with 45,000 graduates in 113 countries. "To thrive in the global economy, having such a network certainly helps," Sykes says.

Students generally have more than 12 years' management experience and come from diverse backgrounds.

"We have applicants from various countries and industries, including financial services, consulting, health care and insurance," Sykes says.

The course includes 16 weeks of classes spent across the university's three campuses, with students spending 13 weeks in Singapore and another three in Chicago and London.

Graduate Alfred Leung Sai-kit is impressed with the diverse student background. "I gained a lot of useful market information from my classmates. Every student is willing to participate and share, which is why it is a great course," says Leung, a director of GE Capital Asia in Hong Kong.
