If you really care about education and wish to work in an environment where others do too, Oxford University Press (OUP) may be the right choice for you.

"We are concerned about education. OUP offers a chance to practice educational values, and help teachers and students. Our publishing vision and values are unique," says OUP (China) editorial director Charles Lai.

He says most people see textbook publishers as caring more about profits than producing good textbooks. But OUP is not like that, he adds.

"We try to do what is best for the students and look for people who share that ideal and passion," he says.

The 28-member English language teaching (ELT) team is seeking staff as it is expanding in response to increased demand and competition.

The company is looking for all levels of editors, from assistant and research editors to an executive editor.

OUP does not have shareholders and its profits are streamed back to Oxford University to help talented students. Arguably, it offers the most comprehensive training for those who wish to make a career in the field.

"We have a long tradition in publishing and can help people acquire good publishing and professional practices," Lai says. "There is no better place than OUP for those who really want to learn about publishing."

OUP offers competitive salaries, and staff are eligible for 20 days of holidays at editor level, which is considerably more than that offered at similar organisations.

Candidates should have a native-level of English, a background in education and good work ethos and team spirit.

Those aiming for higher posts should have ELT classroom experience, business and negotiation skills, knowledge of copyright, printing, digital production process and budgeting, and be familiar with the competition.
