Master of Science in Finance
University of Michigan-Dearborn College and HKUSPACE

The University of Michigan-Dearborn College of Business and the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKUSPACE) jointly offer a Master of Science in Finance course that prepares students for work in financial management, investment and banking. "I have taught a financial reporter who moved on to become a financial analyst for an investment bank," says Dr Lee Hei-wai, the university director of international programmes. "There are also accountants who want to switch to finance."

The programme's curriculum in Hong Kong is identical to that offered in the US. Instructors are active researchers in the field, bringing students hands-on experience and the latest knowledge. Students can take two electives through online learning. There is no need for a dissertation as students have to complete a group research project on a company or the economy.

Applicants must have a recognised undergraduate degree with at least one year of work experience in finance-related fields. Although they need not have an academic background in finance, a knowledge of statistics and mathematics would be an advantage. Students can complete the course in 20 months of part-time study and should complete it within five years. Classes are held at weekends or on weekday evenings. The programme is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
