It has been over 4 months since i relocated from U.S. due to family needs. I was originally from Taiwan and hold US citizenship. I am also a CPA specializing US corporate taxation. It seems that my career search is bombed with couple of factors:
1. I need work visa;
2. My specialty in US tax has little demand here in HK as international tax/HK/RPC tax specialists are more commonly asked for;
3. I am actually happy to switch fields to private accounting/financial analysis, but just have no luck.
Any solutions/advice? I do have MBA degree and have solid knowledge in financial statement analysis, projection and so on. Thank you!

Have you tried approaching some of the US companies including banks and financial institutions here? You're originally from Taiwan, do you speak and write Chinese? It’s a definite advantage if you are fluent in Chinese. You need to know that applying for work visas for most companies these days can be pretty difficult with banks & FIs an exception. As you already know your strengths, now you just need to figure out your "targets". In the meantime you need to build your network and get to know the market and what HK is like. Even part-time or volunteering jobs will help, although you may need to check with HK Immigration for permission. Good luck! |

A US MBA will be too costly for most private companies. How about joining 2nd tier or consultancy firm? |

hi, |
My friend that works in the accounting field says that finding the right people is beoming more and more tough, especially in areas like US taxation. If you can hold out till the end of the year, you might have a better chance.
Alternatively, you could look for a job at a smaller firm in Shenzhen or Guangzhou. This might be a good option since I'm guessing you speak Mandarin already.
