Job hunting with no response

Hi All,

I have been working as a Regional Accounting Analyst for about 4yrs now, and wish to move on. Within the 4yrs of my current position, my work mainly focus on the AR aspect, which I think is kind of limiting my job hunt right now. As I want to enhance my skills in other finance area, I have applied for posts such as Financial analyst and Assistant accounting (e.g. reporting & GL aspects). So far I have applied over 25 jobs (not a lot), but don’t seem to get any reply at all. So I’m worry that my specific AR experience is causing the problem, will it be hard for me to change to other finance area with my current experience?

I have also tried to amend my CV in a way that does not seem to be specifically focus on AR only, and I’ve included other tasks within my work scope such as reporting, system implementation, participation in internal & external audits and internal trainings. But still does not seem to get any reply.

Will it better for me to apply for even more junior role first? As I’m not sure what is the issue right now, with no reply at all I am getting worry. Is it my lack of expertise, my CV, my salary??

Would highly appreciate some advice, and thanks in advance.

Why don't you apply for auditing post? Lots of accountants would like to gain some audit experience.

Thank you so much for your feedback Career Doctor.

Internal transfer chances are rather limited in the current company, that's why I wanted to find a new job in other area.

Your comments really ring a bell, which got me thinking what exactly am i really looking for and capable of.
I do think searching for junior role would definitely help so I think i would start from there and lower my salary slightly too.

I think CV is another issue too right now, as no interview have been offered so far. And as you mentioned I really need to make it more attractive.

Anyway, thank you so much for your advice they really helped me.
Thank you

While it's true that when you're focused in the AR aspect, most companies aren't big enough to find it useful and with your present experience a Financial Analyst role seems a bit too remote.

Have you ever tried asking for a transfer within your present company? Explain and express your feelings to your HR and/or supervisor that you want more responsibilities and want to learn something new, be sincere and honest, it might work.

Sometimes we got carried away when wanting a move, we always look for opportunities outside rather than inside. You didn't mention anything negative about your company and you job, you should be doing OK, right?

You need to know what you're capable of, where your interest lies, and the reasons why you're applying for that job. Otherwise even if you're offered a chance for interview you won’t be able to convince interviewers that you're the right candidate for them.

Willing to take up a comparatively junior role that offers you chances to learn and widen your scope of responsibilities can help in some ways.

You have to be careful, when trying to include other duties in your CV to make it look more attractive as it can also be viewed as too general and without a focus.

Good luck!
