I was burned-out at my previous post with a bank in the Philippines, where I worked as a team leader at a call centre for seven years. Given that I was still single and only 30 years of age, I decided to quit and come to Hong Kong to look for work.
So far, I've been here one and a half months, have sent out 20 online job applications and have also made three walk-in attempts. Despite my efforts, however, I have yet to secure even a single interview.
I’m not sure if it's my resume that's not appealing to employers. In it, I explain my role in at the call centre, where I managed a team of ten agents and achieved numerous company targets.
I submitted resumes to various financial institutions for positions that only require good English communications skills, since I cannot speak or write any Chinese.
I heard that Hong Kong has tightened its guidelines on issuing work visas. I also heard that if the skills required by a company can be sourced locally, then they would rather not employ an expat. Is there any truth to this? I've got 45 more days of stay left, but the money I’ve allotted to spend here is quickly depleting. I am not sure if extending my visa to look further for a job is a good idea.
Any insight you could offer would be most appreciated.

Did you consider doing some research about the job market here before quitting your post? The work visa is a very important issue for employers to consider, since they need to prove that they can't find someone locally to the Immigration Department.
Do you know most call centres, if not all, have been moved to China or even India? If you don't speak Chinese, how can you perform your job if the company later decides to venture into the the Mainland market?
You need to know your skills and strengths and whether or not they are applicable to the jobs you're applying for.
I'm sorry if my reply discourages you, but as a career advisor, I am obligated to tell you the truth.
