I am a merchandiser and have been working in the handbag industry for over 8 years. I am 35 yrs old now and have a bachelor of commerce degree.
My long working hours (over 14-16 hours per day) are making me crazy and seem to be affecting my health - I have been on medication for four years now
I am overworked, depressed and can't stand my job anymore.
I would like to change career, but asides from merchandising, I know little else.
I feel so lost. Please help.

Merchandising is known for its long working hours - people in this industry don't seem to ever get off work. After 8 years in this field you should have developed a strong network of clients, friends, suppliers, etc. Have you tried checking if any of them have any openings? Remember, it's not an escape, pressure's everywhere in whatever job we have. We need to be able to overcome and handle that, whether or not we like it. Take care and good luck. |
Dear Lost,
I feel sorry for you. Indeed the working pattern of long hours in Hong Kong is squeezing people and affecting their health.
I have a suggestion for you, if your financial situation allows it, take a long leave (if possible) or simply quit your job and take a break from your work, go travel and enjoy yourself. Sometimes taking a break from work helps you to think about more efficient way of working or give you fresh idea of what you want to do with your career.
