Insurance company Zurich is targeting ambitious growth for its distribution channels this year, with plans to hire up to 1,000 agents and thereby doubling its sales force.
To join as business development associates, candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years’ experience. Those with less experience can apply to become business development trainees.
“We are looking for people who are entrepreneurial and business minded, as we emphasise and develop those attributes,” says Dickson Wong, head of distribution development for the Zurich academy.
Apart from the ability to work independently, it is also important for candidates to have a good level of language skills.
The selection processes include written tests of language proficiency, numeracy and logical thinking. Shortlisted applicants then have a one-on-one interview to see if they have a suitable character and the commitment to succeed in the industry.
The training programme has a good combination of theoretical and practical knowledge.
“Mentors and field managers will coach recruits and give them personalised instruction to help their development,” Wong
says. “They will lead them through real-life experiences and assist them in discovering their potential. New hires are given an allowance during the two-month training period, allowing them to concentrate on developing their skills.”
