Dragonair is organising a recruitment day at Hong Kong International Airport with a view to hiring about 50 cabin crew to cope with an expansion of its routes.

The event will take place at Dragonair House next Tuesday from 9am to 4pm. A maximum of 1,200 applicants will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Candidates can expect a one-on-one interview and, if successful, a written test and panel interview, which may occur the same day or soon after.

"We will look for attitude, communication skills and language abilities," says Cecilia Leung, the airline's general manager for inflight services and general manager for international affairs. "Ideally, candidates should be proactive and take the initiative in the interview. They need to sell themselves, show enthusiasm for the profession and substantiate their answers."

She adds that cabin crew have diverse responsibilities. They handle preparation and co-ordination work besides overseeing safety and security procedures. This entails co-operation with colleagues and teamwork.

Comprehensive training will teach new hires about different types of aircraft and the use of facilities and devices. They will also learn about service flow and the presentation of food and beverages.

If starting as flight attendants, the career path can lead to roles as flight pursers and senior pursers, or to a back-office or ground-staff positions.
