One in five mainland university graduates is willing to work for free compared with last year's 1.2 per cent, China Daily reports. Canvassing more than 5,300 college graduates, the China Communist Youth League Beijing Committee and the Beijing Youth Stress Management Service Centre also found that salary expectations of junior college, college, master's and doctoral graduates were 2,000 yuan (HK$2,284), 2,500 yuan, 3,000-3,500 yuan and 4,500-5,000 yuan respectively. 

Better-paying jobs at fair

Jobs that were offered at a recent recruitment fair paid 20 per cent more than those available last year, Sing Tao Daily reports. Seventy-three companies took part in a job fair organised by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, offering more than 2,800 positions, of which 90 per cent were full-time jobs. Salaries ranged from HK$6,000 to HK$8,000, 20 per cent more than the previous year.

Rise in unemployed youngsters

Almost one million people aged between 16 to 24 in England were not in school, employment or training in the first three months of the year, The Daily Telegraph reports. The figures represented a rise of 3.5 per cent from the final quarter of last year.
