Firefighters enjoy trust

The firefighter is the most trusted profession on the mainland, China Daily reports. According to a survey of 1,103 people by Reader's Digest China, the other professions in the top 10 include soldiers, weathermen, judges, bank clerks and chefs. Respondents also voted for the most trusted personalities. The top three are agricultural scientist Yuan Longping; Zhong Nanshan, a doctor who exposed a cover-up of the Sars epidemic, and basketball star Yao Ming.

Lawyer sues after getting fired for posting sexy novel online

A senior lawyer in Britain, who was sacked from a leading city firm after she wrote a sexually explicit online novel, is suing her former employers for £3.5 million (HK$41.6m), The Daily Telegraph reports. Deidre Clark, who posted erotic fiction under the pseudonym "Deidre Dare" on a website, is suing Allen & Overy for sexual discrimination and unfair dismissal. She was sacked last year for  "gross misconduct".
