One in three banking professionals in Hong Kong work at least 10 extra hours a week, while more than 43 per cent feel "anguished and helpless" about going to work, Apple Daily reports. According to a survey of 300 members of the Hong Kong Banking Employees Association, more than 80 per cent of respondents say they do not get compensated for overtime, while 34 per cent work at least 11 hours a day. Fifty-six per cent say that pressure from work is "extremely heavy", while 12.9 per cent constantly feel anxious.

 DBS opens new facility for Singapore staff

DBS Group this week opened DBS Asia Hub in Singapore, a new facility that occupies more than 340,000 sqft and houses in excess of 3,000, or more than 40 per cent of the bank's Singapore-based staff. At the facility, which will accommodate most of the DBS's technology, operations and support functions, employees will have access to Wi-fi, an in-house cafe, a 24-hour gym and dance studio.

Australian workers spend less time on the job

Full-time employees in Australia spend less time working than they did a decade ago, a report in The Sydney Morning Herald says. An analysis of labour force data from the Bureau of Statistics by Bankwest shows that they clock up an average of 41.4 hours a week, compared with 42.7 hours in 2000. This adds up to nearly 68 hours less work each year, equal to more than eight 9am to 5pm workdays.
