Australian universities may suffer a drop in enrolment of students from the mainland, says Chris Evans, the Australian tertiary education minister. An education for a Chinese student in Australia is 50 per cent more expensive than it was at the start of last year. Evans says Chinese students are looking for quality and prestige, rather than value for money, as most are postgraduates. More than one in three of the 212,000 overseas students are from the mainland.
