The Magicians' Association of Hong Kong is hosting its annual "Hong Kong Open Close-up Magic Contest" this month. The event will feature a host of seasoned acts, and some new student contenders. A night of squid fishing
The University of Hong Kong's University Philharmonic Orchestra (UPO) will hit the high seas next month for an evening of squid fishing, after a long and busy semester. All UPO members are welcome to join. Payment can be made during rehearsal. Date and time to be confirmed. HK$150. Visit
Last call to serve community
University of Hong Kong student union members are invited to attend the "Send-off Ceremony for Service 100 Summer Programmes" at which this year's Summer 100 community programmes will be posted for the last time before their commencement. The various initiatives will tackle issues such as fair trade, Aids, hunger, poverty alleviation and universal education. Next frontier in sound
IT, music and mathematics and programming society members should keep an eye on the City University's upcoming conference on "Computational Harmonic Analysis". The interdisciplinary science is widely seen as the next frontier in the study of sound patterns. Distinguished speakers at the event will include Vanderbelt University's Douglas Hardin, UC Berkeley's Olga Holtz and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Tomaso Poggio. May 23-27. Visit
