For a French escape in between and after work, Á La Maison offers a chic but affordable dining experience to office crowds in the neighbourhood.
The restaurant, which offers a wide selection of traditional French staples, is a mere three minutes from the Fortress Hill MTR station. Owner Stephen Huynh, an actor and former Mr Hong Kong contestant, often shows up at the bistro to greet customers.
The predominantly black-themed interior design gives the restaurant a classy touch. There are 40 to 50 seats in the main dining room, with a more secluded area available for a party of 10 to 12 people with no minimum charge.
A lunch set costs HK$68 to HK$98, with main course choices such as French-style baked pork chop rice, oven baked garoupa rice with cheese, char-grilled New Zealand ribeye steak, and pan-fried chicken breast. At weekday lunchtimes, the restaurant can get packed.
Aside from an a la carte menu of the usual French offerings, the restaurant offers a five-course (HK$280) and a seven-course (HK$380) dinner tasting menu that changes about every six weeks. The menu includes entrecote with black truffle sauce, lamb with mint sauce and garoupa fillet with white wine cream sauce.
Opening hours are 11.30am to 3pm, and 6pm to 11pm. During happy hour, from 6pm to 8pm, guests enjoy buy-one-get-one-free on all house red and white wines by the glass and bottle. There's also draft and bottled beers, soft drinks, and juices.
