One of the best new spots for a business lunch is 2nds, a quaint, intimate Asian-Western restaurant located in the emerging business district of Fort Bonifacio Global City, close to Makati.
Opened in late December, it is the first venture of a group of young professionals with "old souls". Not surprisingly, the restaurant has an Old World look, discreetly accessorised, and with an ambience carefully crafted to say "for members only".
The menu is inspired by a mix of Filipino and Western comfort food that the owners grew up with. The classical American roast beef and raclette (HK$88) has cheese on top and the French-inspired crispy duck confit (HK$150) is served with pineapple chutney. Samples of lavish Filipino fusion fare are sizzling "three little pigs" kawali (HK$106) and cornflake buffalo pops (HK$52). The simple yet richly-flavoured leche flan turon a la mode is fast becoming a signature dessert, as is the New York-style chocolate lava cake.
Seating is only for 65 but the 2,368 sqft space is designed to accommodate 100. A private room offers a more intimate setting for a party of 14. Nadine Howell, 2nds' marketing head, says the management plans to offer set executive lunches. The restaurant is open for brunch until 1pm. The bar has an extensive selection of single malt Scotch whiskies and will soon offer a small stock of cigars.
