Tanoshiya is a new Japanese restaurant in Sun Hung Kai Properties' APM mall in Kwun Tong, which the company calls its "retail flagship in East Kowloon". The complex is easily accessible from the Kwun Tong MTR station.
One of more than 30 food and beverage outlets in the mall, Tanoshiya is a traditional-style restaurant with modern touches to its decor and specialises in grilled, steamed and noodle dishes.
The restaurant, which seats about 50, is operated by Wellmart Management Hong Kong, which also manages other Japanese restaurants, including Iccho Japanese Restaurant, Key West Village Izakaya Western Restaurant, Sushi Nagoyaka Tei, Akamaru Udon Factory, and Issei Japanese Dining.
A menu offering about 30 dishes is divided into three sections: Japanese steam box dishes served with miso soup, rice and an appetiser; rice dishes, which are also served with miso soup and an appetiser; and Nagoya udon, which are served with an appetiser and have either a curry soup or an Italian tomato soup base.
Steam box prices range from HK$48 for steamed chicken or sole fillet, to HK$128 for steamed abalone and chicken.
Rice dishes cost from HK$45 for grilled mackerel or chicken wing, to HK$98 for steamed eel.
Udon dishes range from HK$52 for deep-fried chicken with curry udon, to HK$78 for the house curry set with steamed pork belly or steamed chicken. Japanese ice creams are available for dessert.
A range of Japanese beers, sakes, soft drinks and fruit drinks is also available alongside international brands.
