It's so new on the block that it doesn't yet have a liquor licence - bring your own bottles and no corkage is charged. FoFo is Hong Kong's latest Spanish tapas restaurant and the local arm of the acclaimed el Willy restaurant in Shanghai.
Menus are devised by el Willy chef Willy Trullas Moreno and the Hong Kong kitchen is headed by Alex Martinez Fargas, both natives of Barcelona, the capital of Spanish cuisine. Tapas, paellas and other rice dishes are at the heart of a menu that also offers specialities such as semi-cooked red tuna loin and scallop ceviche. Aged Iberian hams are complemented by Barcelona-style toasted tomato bread, while the city's more modern face is reflected in the beef cheek cooked for five hours with banana and passion fruit.
The decor by CL3 Architects is elegantly modern yet comfortable and welcoming, with racks of still-untouchable wine bottles lining the walls - although management stresses that FoFo "is all about the food". The room, though, is also about a spectacular view over Central, while an upstairs roof garden supplies a refuge for smokers and a private party venue for hire.
FoFo is open for lunch and dinner. Prices for individual tapas start at HK$55, although you could pay HK$310 for 50 grams of Jamon Iberico de Bellota. Be careful how many you order. In Spanish, "fofo" means "chubby".
